BYU-Idaho free concert- Salt Lake, Pocatello, Rexburg

The BYU-Idaho choirs and orchestra will be performing free concerts in Salt Lake, Pocatello, and Rexburg. The concert is Bring Forth my Zion. The concerts is free but does require tickets, information for each city below.

POCATELLO - Thursday, March 8, 7:30 p.m., ISU Stephens Performing Arts Center: Admission is free, but tickets are necessary. They can be obtained in person at the ticket office or by calling the Stephens Performing Arts Center Ticket Office at (208) 282-3595.

REXBURG - Friday, March 9, 7:30 p.m., BYU-Idaho Center: Admission is free, but tickets are necessary. They can be obtained from the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office at (208) 496-3170 or (800) 717-4257 (open school days from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) or online at www.byui.edu/tickets. A BYU-Idaho pre-show dinner at 6 p.m. is available for $15 to those interested (deadline to order dinner is March 5).

SALT LAKE CITY - Saturday, March 10, 7:30 p.m., Salt Lake Tabernacle: Admission is free, but tickets are necessary. They can be obtained at the Temple Square Events Ticket Office at www.lds.org/events, (801) 570-0080 or toll free at 1-866-537-8457.

Hiking "R" Mountain

Saturday we went with my sister and brother-in-law to climb the mountain with the R on it near Rexburg. We brought the baby because we heard it wasn't too hard of a hike but it was really pretty steep. Once you get to the top you the walk is pretty even and the veiw is amazing. The hike up is about 15 minutes but around the top you can spend lots of time if you wanted to walk around the top.



Directions to the trail head: if you head out of Rexburg on main street and about 8 miles out of town turn left on N 3700 E, the first road that crosses it should be Twin Butte Road, turn right. The parking for the trail will be on your left.

Little Caesar's vs. 5 Dollar Pizza

We have been to Little Caesars a lot and of course we go there for the $5 hot and ready pizza, but while we were in Rexburg last Saturday we decided that we should try $5 Pizza on Main Street. We have reasons we like both of them.

At Little Caesars we like the sauce a lot better and it's a little less greasy than the pizza we got at $5 Pizza. We also like that the pizza is ready right when you walk in.

At $5 Pizza the bread was amazing. They also let you pick any topping you want rather than just getting pepperoni and they make it right there. They also have more options that you can get for $5, you can get a large 1 topping or a smaller size with more toppings. They also have the option of getting wings.

Overall, which is better? Well, it depends on what you are looking for at the time. If you want pizza fast and don't mind cheese or pepperoni (or would get that anyway), then maybe Little Caesar's is for you. If you are craving other toppings, but still want the low price, then 5 Dollar pizza might be right for you.

Gator Jack's Sandwich Shack

A little bit after we were married I overheard somebody mention Gator Jack's in Rigby. We stopped by after school one day- mid afternoon and were greeted by Jack himself, who let us sample a few different things before we finally decided on what we wanted, now it is a favorite place of ours. The sandwiches are delicious and totally loaded down (4 inch is their small size, and totally big enough for most people).
I like to stick with what I know I like so I usually order and Up Yonder! or Shine from Da Moon. You'll have to go in to find out what those are. My husband has tried most of them but his favorite is the Kissin' Kin. A fun thing is to get an order of gator bites- they are mini baked potatoes... so good!

Gator Jack's now has two locations- in Rigby on Farnsworth way, right off the highway and in Rexburg across from Porter Park.

If you want something to do after you eat, Rigby Bowl is nearby.

BYU-Idaho concerts, activities, and events

This past week my brother was in town to check out BYU-Idaho so Friday night we went to a concert on campus. We saw Accoustic Cafe which had acoustic performances from students.

There are a lot of options for on campus activities that are open to the community, there are Center Stage events that are performers that come to BYU-Idaho. Some examples are David Archuleta, and ABBA tribute group, and Ryan Shuppe.

There is also student talent activities which show case the talent of people there. They have different kinds of music shows as well as dance performances and plays.

My tip would be to get there early- when it says be there 10 or 15 minutes before the performance, do. They do release the seats and you will have a hard time finding seating.

Events at BYU-Idaho are pretty cheap, most student talent performances tickets can be gotten for around $6 and then Center Stage are usually $12.

Cheap Movies and Rexburg Treats

Today I want to tell you about something wonderful they don't have where I am from... cheap movie theaters.

The premise is that they play movies after they go to the regular theater and before they go to DVD. So if you aren't totally itching to see a movie but want the big screen experience without the high cost this is the way to go.

There are a few different options. In Rexburg there is the Paramount 5 theater. We went there tonight to see Inception. Anyway, the Paramount is located on Center Street which is just off main. Adults are $3 and Children, Seniors, Matinee, and Tuesdays are $2. The owners of this theater also run the Teton View Drive In, which is only open in the summer.

In Idaho Falls there are two theater choices both owned by Royal Theaters. The Paramount Triplex is located behind the mall, just off of 17th Street. Adults are $3.50 and Children, Seniors, Matinee, and Tuesdays are $2.50.

The other Idaho Falls theater is the Centre Twin which is downtown Idaho Falls on Park Ave. This theater costs a little bit more than Paramount but it gets the movies earlier. Here the movies are $5 for adults and $3 for Children, Seniors, Matinee, and Tuesdays.

If you happen to choose to go to Rexburg there are a lot of yummy ice cream places around for a treat after. BRC is across the street which offers frozen custard that you can mix things in. Twizl Berry has frozen yogurt that you pay for by the ounce (similar to Kiwi Loco in Idaho Falls), Sammys is a new place for milkshakes and tonight when we went by it looked completely full, and Mill Hollow has wonderful soft serve in a variety of flavors.
